Palmerston beach hiking tour

This is a 10 minute hike on moderate trail that has some sections of mud and roots to walk over.

Tour Highlights

Beach combing and the vast tidal pools are the key feature of this beach. It is made up of many small coves that all have their own unique landscapes. There are sea stacks, tidal pools, rock formations, and even an old cabin. At low tide the exploring is endless, and many sea creatures can be seen in the pools. It’s a popular place to collect beach glass and relax by a cozy fire.

Scenic Drive & Wildlife Viewing

The Palmerston Beach hiking tour begins with a comfortable drive in our climate-controlled 12-passenger van. During the drive always make sure to keep your eyes peeled as there is a good chance of seeing black bears and other wildlife. Upon leaving Port Hardy we will be travelling on active logging roads and will pass through the historic logging town of Holberg. We will make a quick stop at the Scarlet Ibis Pub in Holberg where guests will have access to washrooms and the pre-ordered boxed lunches will be picked up.

Hike Details

Upon arriving at the trail head we will hike the 10 minutes to the beach. From there the places to explore are endless. The rocky formations on the beach do require guests to be physically able to walk on uneven terrain. There is a rustic outhouse at the beach for guests. We strive to be very eco-friendly, and follow the pack-it-in pack-it-out rule.

Beach Activities

Palmerston Beach is a very popular local destination for beach combing. Guests can be sure to find ocean-polished glass in greens, blues, browns, and teals. There is even the odd glass ball found at this beach. Exploring tidal pools is another great pastime. In the pools you will see anemones, sea stars, crabs, hermit crabs, barnacles, sculpin fish, chitons, and urchins. Your guides are happy to lead beach combing and tidal pool explorations. Humpback and grey whales are often spotted in the distance from this beach. This is a great place to sit against a beach log, roast s’mores on a fire, and look for eagles and whales.
